1953 Bentley R Type Manual
1953 Bentley R Type Manual. This beautiful example is finished in its
original livery of Midnight Blue paintwork with Tan leather. Supplied new
on the 8th May 1953 by Jack Barclay of Berkeley Square, London
to its first owner, Mr L Harris of Herella Ltd. Harella was to become one
of the biggest fashion names during the 1960’s and was the second largest
exporter of ladies’ fashion across the world. During the 1970’s NXB 838
was put into storage having covered a little over 30,000 miles. During the
1990’s the car was fully recommissioned by a South West London garage.
Today the speedometer reads just over 50,000 miles which is believed to be
correct, inside the car remains extremely original, the Tan leather still
being incredibly soft, so too the carpets that are in excellent condition
as it’s the equally original headlining, the car also retains its original
small tool kit mounted under the dash. The bodywork is also very fine
indeed with the Midnight Blue paintwork very much suiting the car. Offered
with an impressive history file which details the cars maintenance back to
the late 1990’s. In more recent years the car was subject to over £20,000
being lavished on it with marque specialists, Royce Engineering. We have
maintained the car for the last few years and most recently carried out a
full 24,000 mile service. Among the invoices for works carried out which
detail the cars careful maintenance, also present in the history file are
copies of the original build records, past MOT test certificates and a
photograph of the car taking part in a London – Brighton rally with
Stirling Moss pictured with the car. On the road this R-Type performs
extremely well in all respects and is a pleasure to drive. Ready for
showing and touring.
