1933 Rolls-Royce 20/25 Barker Limousine
1933 Rolls-Royce 20/25 Barker Limousine. Fitted
with Barker ‘Enclosed Limousine’ body, the rear compartment is trimmed in
the original Dark Blue hide and features very elaborate fold out
occasional seats, smoking hatch roof light, full blinds and provision for
Holland covers on the seats and division. The rear doors also feature very
unusual ‘invisible’ hinges. The car was also ordered with a jacking system
and fitted rear trunk. Incredibly
chassis number GBA62 has had just 7 former keepers in its 92-year life,
being delivered to its first in November 1933. Mrs H B Sedwick of 47 Park
Street Mayfair, London. Mrs Sedwick was very familiar with the Rolls-Royce
marque having previously owned a 1910 Silver Ghost (1303), a 1912 Silver
Ghost (2062) and a 1922 20HP (88K7). Upon delivery the 20/25 was given
registration number HS-492, which it still wears today, the number plate
was chosen a tribute to Mrs Sedwick’s late husband, Henry who died in
1931. In 1938 Mrs Sedgwick
moved to Hook Heath Farm, a splendid home adjacent to Woking Golf course
in Surrey. As with many of this type of car it was used very sparingly
throughout the war years, Mrs Sedwick passing away in 1942. At wars end
the car was sold and re licenced to L D Redman Ltd of Corsham Street,
London N1. Redman Ltd were underwear manufacturers, principally supplying
Marks & Spencers, behind Olds Street Station. GBA62 then passed through 4
British owners until 1976 when it was purchased by its last owner who
would lovingly care for the car for the next 49 years. During his long
tenure, the car has been cosseted with no expense spared, there is a huge
file of invoices for works carried out by marque specialists, whatever the
car ever needed was done without hesitation. One major piece of work was
the fitment of hydraulic power steering, this has been done to a very high
standard and makes the car a pleasure to drive. The accompanying history
file comprises of 2 large box files filled with invoices and various
papers pertaining the car cars rich history. The files have been lovingly
curated by the previous owner and give a fascinating insight into the cars
92-year history. GBA62 is offered
to the market for the first time in 49 years and is presented in truly
outstanding condition throughout. One the road she performs faultlessly as
one would expect given her maintenance history. A wonderful example which
must be seen.
